Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy is a simple dinner that will remind you of your grandma’s home cooking. It only takes five minutes to prep and cooks all day so you come home a delicious dinner.

Slow cookers are awesome and I have an on going love affair with mine. Lately, since the temperatures are colder I’ve been craving some of my favorite slow cooker recipes. But I love my slow cooker in the summer months too. When it’s too hot to turn on the oven to cook dinner in the slow cooker is a lifesaver.

One of my favorite things about this recipe is that you can just pop the ingredients in the slow cooker set it and forget it. There is no pre-cooking involved at all like in this recipe for Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken Sandwiches or this one for Slow Cooker Southwestern Chicken. Drop and go slow cooker recipes are the best kind of crock pot recipe, right?

To make Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy you’ll need:

  • two boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • two packets chicken gravy mix
  • sour cream
  • cream of chicken soup
  • minced onion flakes
  • garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • and some water

How to make this recipe:

The first step  by making the gravy. To do this pour the chicken gravy mix, a can of cream of chicken soup, minced onion flakes, garlic powder, two cups water into the bowl of the slow cooker. Whisk the ingredients together until well combined.

Next, season both the chicken with salt and pepper

Then place the chicken breasts in the gravy mixture and make sure they are coved. Set crock pot on low cook for six to eight hours.

When cooking is done remove chicken and shred with two forks. The chicken should be so tender it pulls away easily. Once chicken is shredded return it to the slow cooker.

Finally, add a half cup sour cream and stir to combine.

This recipe is perfect for serving over rice, noodles, mashed potatoes or biscuits.

My parents used to make something similar to this, but in the oven – chicken and rice with cream of mushroom soup. But this looks way better! 😀 And probably better-tasting than mushroom soup, ha! 😀 Thanks for sharing!
