Oreo Truffles are fun, easy to make treats that combine Oreo cookies and cream cheese in a rich chocolate shell. These Oreo Balls are always a crowd pleaser and prefect for serving at a party of gifting to friends and family.

At Christmas time my family and I pass out homemade treats to our neighbors. In that past I have included Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Peanut Butter Haystacks, Candy Cane Blossom Cookies and my favorite Salted Peanut Roll Bars. I just love giving homemade cookies and candies to friends. It’s such a sweet way to say you’re special to us.

How to make Oreo Truffle Balls (scroll down for full recipe)

What you’ll need:

Ingredients:

  • Oreo Cookies
  • Cream Cheese
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Spinkles (optional)

Ingredients needed to make Oreo Truffles laid out in measured amounts on white parchment paper.

Equipment:

  • Food Processor or Blender
  • Baking Pan with Cooling Rack
  • Parchment Paper

Directions:

  1. Begin by lining a baking tray with cooling rack with parchment paper or wax paper and set it aside.
  2. Next using a food processor or high-speed blender pulse the Oreos, including the cream center, into a fine powder. Transfer the Oreos crumbs into a mixing bowl.
  3. Add softened cream cheese to the Oreos and mix using a spoon until if forms a sand like mixture.
  4. Then, scoop the mixture one tablespoon at a time  and roll into a one inch balls. Place on the prepared tray. Chill in the freezer for 30 minutes. This recipe will make about a dozen truffles.
  5. At the end of the chilling time melt the milk chocolate in the microwave for one minute stirring every 20 seconds.
  6. Finally, remove the truffles from the freezer. Dip into melted chocolate. Using a spoon pour some of the chocolate over the top of the truffle. Allow excess chocolate to run off before for transferring back to tray.

Variations and Substitutions:

  • Swap the milk chocolate for dark chocolate, white chocolate, or even flavored candy melts.
  • Drizzle the top of the truffles chocolate, or candy melts.
  • Top the truffles with more crushed Oreos, another cookies or candy bar.

Storing and Freezing:

Storing:

These treats are made with cream cheese so they will need to be stored in the refrigerator. I recommend storing in a container in a single layer rather than in a zip top bag.

Freezing:

These Oreo Balls can be frozen in an airtight container for up to three months. To thaw place in the fridge overnight.

My Tips For This Recipe:

  • Do not use the double stuffed variety of Oreos. The extra filling in the cookies will affect the texture of the crumb mixture prevent it from forming into a ball shape.
  • Do not skip chilling the Oreo balls. If you skip the chilling step the cookie crumbs will not hold together and will break apart while dipping them into the melted chocolate.

I hope you and your family will love this recipe as much as we do! If you do try this recipe please come back and leave a comment letting me know how much you liked it!

Happy Cooking Y’all!

Recipe Notes

Do not exchange cream cheese with low-fat cream cheese. Low fat cream cheese is not as heavy and will prevent the Oreo crumbs from sticking together to form a ball.
