Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

This amazing Apple Crisp recipe is made with crisp Granny Smith apples in a cinnamon and brown sugar sauce and topped with a delicious oatmeal crumb topping. This warm inviting dessert is always a crowd pleaser!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 4 cups apples peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon.

  3. Cut in the butter until mixture becomes crumb like.
  4. Press half of the mixture into the bottom of a 9x9 square baking dish or pan.
  5. Cover the mixture with the apples.
  6. In a small saucepan combine the sugar, cornstarch, water and vanilla extract. Bring the mixture to a boil. Continue cooking for two minutes stirring continuously. Until the sauce is thick and clear. Pour the mixture over the apples.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the top. Bake for an hour or until the apples are fork tender.
