This Winter Sangria combines the flavors of red wine, pomegranates, sweet dark cherries, honey and apples with the warm flavor of bourbon. Perfect for serving with a holiday meal or sipping while opening gifts this cocktail is sure to put you in the holiday mood.

Around here I like to make cocktails by the pitcher around the holiday gatherings. Having a signature cocktail pre-made in a pitcher is perfect for welcoming guests. In the past I’ve served Pear and Apple Sangria, Cranberry Mojitos and even set up a Bloody Mary Bar with Homemade Bloody Mary Mix at parties. If you want to serve a warm drink try my recipe for Slow Cooker Hot Cocoa and put out a bottle of vodka or peppermint schnapps for guest to add a little spirit to their drinks.

A glass of sangria sits in front of a pitcher of sangria and a sliced pomegranate.

Substitutions and Variations:

  • Add more fruit. You can use orange, lemon or lime slices for a touch of citrus flavor.
  • No bourbon? You can use whiskey or even brandy in it’s place.
  • Red, red wine. Use any type red wine you want. I used Cabernet Sauvignon because it is what I had on hand.
  • Make it a mocktail. Try using a zero alcohol wine, like St. Regis, and swapping the bourbon for club soda, ginger ale, or ginger beer.

I hope you will love this recipe as much as we did! If you do try this recipe please come back and leave a comment letting me know how much you liked it!

Cheers Y’all!
