This Slow Cooker Hot Cocoa is a rich delicious treat that is prefect for warming you up on a cold day. This recipe is made with a few simple ingredients and once you tried it you’ll never buy the powered stuff in the box again.

Keeping it real though, I totally stress out about all the extra things that go on during the holidays . Buying presents, school programs, parties, planning Christmas dinner etc.  However, I do really try though make an effort to enjoy the time with my family. Simple activities like movie nights with this Red Hot Apple Cider served warm with chocolate chip cookies or homemade popcorn. We also love taking a drive around town to see the lights while enjoying some of our favorite Christmas treats like these Chocolate Peanut Butter Haystacks. These are both great ways to enjoy time together that are inexpensive and require very little planning.

How do you spike hot chocolate?

There are two ways to do this and it really depends on if you want to add liquor to the whole batch of crockpot hot chocolate or just one serving. To spike the whole batch you’ll need one cup of your choice of alcohol or an ounce and half for a single serving.

Liquor suggestions:

  • Peppermint Schnapps
  • Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • Spiced Rum
  • Vanilla Vodka
  • Bourbon
  • or even red wine

If you are serving this homemade hot cocoa at a party have a little fun and set out a selection of fun topping beyond the traditional marshmallows. Kids and adults alike will have fun getting creative with their drinks.

Suggested toppings:

  • Whipped Cream
  • Grated Cinnamon or Nutmeg
  • Spinkles
  • Crushed Peppermints
  • Candy Canes
  • Caramel Sauce
  • Marshmallow Fluff
  • Grated Chocolate
  • Flavored Syrups: caramel, peppermint, vanilla or even coffee
