Homemade Tortilla Chips are a healthier alternative to store bought chips and are perfect for enjoying with dips, chili and soups.
The other night we had enchiladas for dinner had a few leftover tortillas. Rather than let them sit in the fridge I decided to use them to make Homemade Tortilla Chips to enjoy with salsa while we vegged out this weekend watching the NCAA playoffs. I’ve also made these chips to enjoy with this Chicken Taco Soup.
What Are Tortilla Chips?
Tortilla chips are a very poplar appetizer often served at Mexican restaurants with salsa or cheese dip. Tortilla chips are typically made with corn tortillas that are baked or fried. In this recipe I baked White Corn Tortillas to make chips light crisp chips.
Are Tortilla Chips Healthy?
Making your own chips is always a healthier choice than buying them remade at the store. By making your own you can control the amount of salt. Making your own also allows you to reduce the amount of fat and calories.
How Do You Make Homemade Tortilla Chips?
To make Homemade Tortilla Chips begin by preheating the oven to 350º. Then cut white or yellow corn tortillas into 6 equal wedges. Place the wedges into a large bowl and drizzle olive oil over the top of the tortillas. Gently toss until wedges are coated in oil.
Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper, then lay the tortillas out in a single layer making sure none overlap. Then sprinkle with salt.
Place the tortillas in the oven and bake for ten minutes. Remove the chips from the oven then flip them over and lightly salt again. Bake again for an additional 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
