I’ve been making a lot of pasta and Italian dishes lately. Recently, I’ve shared recipes for Skillet Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan Casserole. Both of these recipes are made with a jar of my 15 Minute Marinara Sauce. But today I’m sharing my go to, never fails, get dinner on table favorite meat sauce.

How to make this easy Homemade Spaghetti Sauce:

(Scroll down to bottom of page for full recipe.)

Ingredients:

  • Canned Diced or Crushed Tomatoes
  • Tomato Paste
  • Onion
  • Garlic Cloves
  • Ground Beef Chuck
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Fresh Parsley
  • Salt and Pepper

Directions:

  1. Heat then olive oil in a large skillet or sauce pan over medium high heat. Once hot add the onions and garlic and cook until soft and transparent. About 3-5 minutes.
  2. Add the beef to the skillet, breaking it up with spoon, cooking until browned and no longer pink, About 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomato paste and diced tomatoes with juice from the can then stir to combine
  4. Stir in the Italian Seasoning, fresh chopped parsley, salt and pepper.
  5. Bring to a low boil. Turn the heat to low and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes.

Substitutions and Variations:

Protein Options: I used ground beef chuck to make this sauce, but you could use ground turkey if you prefer. Another delicious option is to use ground Italian sausage in this sauce.

Onions and Garlic: If you don’t have or don’t want to use fresh onion and garlic cloves then you can swap them for 1 tablespoon onion powder or one tablespoon garlic powder. Add the onion and garlic powder to the ground beef before cooking it.

Add Some Spice: Want to give your spaghetti sauce some spice add a 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to the sauce while it is simmering.

Red Wine: If you want to add a little more depth to the flavor of your spaghetti sauce try adding a half cup of red wine. To do this add the red wine when you add in the diced tomatoes. Bring the sauce to a boil to help the alcohol dissipate then simmer as instructed.

Storage:

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container or freezer bag.  Meat sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four days.

Freezing:

Spaghetti sauce is a perfect for making in advance and freezing. Let the sauce cool completely then transfer into tightly sealed containers or freezer bags. Freeze sauce for up to three months

Pro Tip: I recommend freezing the sauce in small portions. This will make it easier to thaw and will allow you to decide how much sauce you need when it’s time to enjoy it!

I hope you and your family will love this recipe as much as we do! If you do try this recipe please come back and leave a comment letting me know how much you liked it!

Happy Cooking Y’all!
