Moscow Mule is a crisp and refreshing citrus cocktail that is perfect for enjoying alone or with friends. This recipe makes eight mules but you could easily double or even triple the recipe for a big party.
Moscow Mules are a classic cocktail that are easy to make with just a handful of ingredients and garnished with limes and fresh mint. Of course the most recognizable thing about a Moscow Mule or any variation of this drink is the copper mug.
How do you make a Moscow Mule?
Ingredients:
- Vodka
- Ginger Beer
- Lime Juice
- Limes (for garnish)
- Mint (for garnish)
Other Supplies:
- Copper Mug or similar sized glass
- Pitcher
Instructions:
- Thinly slice two limes and place them in the bottom of the pitcher.
- Pour two 12 oz. bottles of Ginger Beer on top of the limes.
- Next, add the lime juice and vodka and stir until combined.
- Pour over ice and garnish with lime and mint.
Do I have to serve Moscow Mules served in a copper mug?
While it is tradition there is no reason why you have to serve a mule in a copper mug. A simple old fashioned glass or even a red solo cup will work just fine.
What is the difference in ginger beer and ginger ale?
Both ginger beer and ginger ale are non-alcoholic drinks that are commonly used a mixer in cocktails but they do have differences. The main difference in the two is the taste. Ginger beer is brewed and fermented give it a more full bodied ginger flavor. Ginger ale is really more of a soda made with ginger and carbonated water.
For this recipe I recommend not exchanging the ginger beer for ginger ale. Using ginger ale will give you less flavor and give the drink more carbonation that will fizz out quickly.
My tips for this recipe:
- Use a good name brand vodka. Because there are not a lot of ingredients in this drink you will want to make sure you are using good quality products. My personal recommendation is Tito’s or Gray Goose vodka. These are both moderately priced vodkas that are often served as better brands in restaurants and bars. If you feel like splurging Belvedere is an excellent choice.
- If you are making this in advance of a party combine everything but the ginger beer and ice and chill it in the fridge. Adding the ginger beer then letting it sit will weaken the flavor of the ginger and leave the drink with a flat taste.
- Mint is not 100% necessary. Sometimes finding mint at my grocery store is difficult but I don’t let the stop me from making a Moscow Mule if I want one. I just add the lime and sip away.
I hope you enjoy sipping on this refreshing Moscow Mule cocktail as much as we do!
Cheers Y’all!
